New Homes for Handforth

22-02-2010

Contour Homes, one of the region’s biggest housing and regeneration companies has recently submitted a planning application to Cheshire East Council to develop 21 two-bedroom apartments in Handforth.

Nicky Harris Project Manager for Contour Homes said:  “The properties will be offered to local people looking to get on to the property ladder using an ‘Intermediate Rent’ or Rent to Homebuy scheme.”

Intermediate rent is a scheme that offers good quality private accommodation for rent that is lower than the normal rent for private accommodation.   The properties will be offered to people who have been nominated from the local waiting list and who are either not ready to buy their own home or are unable to buy their own home at the moment.  After an agreed time, an option to purchase the property using shared ownership will be offered to residents.  This offers them a ‘try before you buy’ experience and gives them time to save for a deposit during the initial renting period.

A property on the ground floor of the development has been ear-marked for ‘community use’ and Contour is consulting with The Knowle Park and Spath Lane Residents Association on potential future use of this space

Nicky Harris added:  “We have worked closely with the Council to develop properties that will meet housing need in the area.  The new homes offer a desirable location close to local amenities and transport links.”

If the planning application is approved Contour Homes expects to start work on the development in April 2010  with new homes being available in April 2011.
